How to wash a Qipao

For chemical fiber fabrics and cotton fabrics

You can choose either dry cleaning or water washing. Generally speaking, fabrics that are heavily polluted or have jacquard technology are best dry-cleaned, while other products can be hand-washed. Use water temperature below 40℃, regular washing powder or soap, rub and wash, rinse with water, wring out or machine dehydration, then hang to dry and iron at medium temperature.

For mulberry silk fabric - Generally choose dry cleaning or careful hand washing.

For brocade fabric - It is best to dry clean. Remind the laundromat to handle it carefully when delivering it for washing.

If you choose to wash by hand, you should thoroughly check the clothes before washing, mark the key contaminated parts, and pre-treat the severely contaminated parts before entering the water. You can use a wet towel with different detergents to wipe gently according to the type of stains to remove or weaken the stains. After being stained, it can be soaked in water dissolved in washing liquid for a short time, and the time should not exceed 5 minutes.

  1. Silk-specific detergent or other acidic laundry detergent should be used instead of ordinary laundry detergent, soap, etc. Because conventional washing powder, soap, etc. are relatively alkaline, but mulberry silk fiber is not resistant to alkali.
  1. The washing liquid should be evenly dissolved in water before adding clothes. When washing, the water temperature should be controlled below 30°C, use gentle techniques, and wash carefully. Rub the heavily contaminated areas carefully, but avoid vigorous force. You can also use a soft brush to gently scrub along the grain of the fabric.
  1. Washing time should be controlled within 10 minutes. You can also add a little salt to brightly colored cheongsams when washing them to fix the color. Rinse with clean water after washing. Generally, it should be rinsed at least twice until the lotion is rinsed away. A little vinegar can be added to the last rinse to maintain the mercerization of the cheongsam. During the entire washing process, rings, bracelets, nails, etc. should be prevented from scratching the clothes and causing snagging.
  1. The rinsed clothes can be squeezed and dehydrated. Do not wring them vigorously or use a machine to dehydrate them. After removing excess moisture, the cheongsam should be simply shaped and then spread flat or hung to dry in a cool place. It must not be exposed to the sun or dried.
  1. If the cheongsam has wrinkles after drying, it can be ironed. The ironing temperature should be controlled between 165°C and 185° You can use reverse dry ironing or ironing with a pad. Do not spray directly on the clothes. After ironing, clothes should be placed in a ventilated place until the heat and moisture dissipates, otherwise it may cause mildew.

How to maintain them in closet

  1. Non-silk cheongsam can be hung on a hanger in a dry and ventilated cupboard. Note that the length of the hanger should match the shoulder width of the cheongsam. For silk cheongsam, you should also be careful not to get too close to fur or wool clothing.
  1. In addition, because mulberry silk is a protein fiber and is easy to attract moths, anti-moth drugs should also be placed in the cabinet where the cheongsam is stored.
  2. If possible, wrap the cheongsam in soft paper to prevent yellowing and keep the color bright. Generally, white cheongsam is wrapped in blue paper, and colorful cheongsam is wrapped in dark paper.

 Hope this is helpful:)
